Men's Tennis lands three on Academic All-Big 12 Team
April 17, 2009 IRVING, Texas -- Headed by a pair of first-team selections, the Texas men’s tennis team landed three student-athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Team, the league announced Friday. Senior Miguel Reyes Varela earned his third first-team selection in as many years of eligibility, and Jonah Kane-West joined Reyes Varela on the first team and received his first Academic All-Big 12 honor. Sophomore Ed Corrie was named to the second team. Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, 17 Big 12 men’s tennis players were named to the first team, while six student-athletes earned second-team recognition. All nominees, except for seniors, must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled matches.
