Men's Tennis lands three on Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas -- Headed by a pair of first-team selections, the Texas men’s tennis team landed three student-athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Team, the league announced Friday.

Senior Miguel Reyes Varela earned his third first-team selection in as many years of eligibility, and Jonah Kane-West joined Reyes Varela on the first team and received his first Academic All-Big 12 honor.  Sophomore Ed Corrie was named to the second team. 

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, 17 Big 12 men’s tennis players were named to the first team, while six student-athletes earned second-team recognition. 
First-team members have maintained a 3.20 minimum grade point average, either cumulatively or in each of the past two semesters, while second-team members maintained a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. 

All nominees, except for seniors, must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled matches.  Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first years of academic residence at their respective schools.
