Men's Tennis preview: Texas Tech

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 3 Texas (17-2, 4-0) looks to complete a weekend sweep Sunday when it heads to Lubbock to take on No. 42 Texas Tech (12-8, 1-3). First serve is set for 1 p.m. CDT at the McLeod Tennis Center.

Texas heads to Lubbock with momentum on its side after recording a 5-2 victory over No. 2 Pepperdine on Friday in Austin. The Horns took the doubles point and four of six singles matches en route to their second victory this season over a second-ranked opponent.

Three Longhorns - senior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas), sophomore Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) and freshman Michael Venus (Orlando, Fla.) - own perfect 4-0 records in conference play. Senior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) and freshman Miguel Reyes Varela (Cuernavaca, Mexico) are 3-1 in Big 12 singles play.

Texas Tech suffered a 4-3 loss to Texas A&M in Lubbock in its most recent match on Thursday, April 13. The Red Raiders feature 86th-ranked Adrian Prpic. Texas Tech defeated Texas during the 2005 regular season in Austin, but the Longhorns later returned the favor by defeating the Red Raiders during the 2005 Big 12 Tournament in Austin.
