No. 3 Men's Tennis sweeps Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. -- No. 3 Texas took the doubles point and all six singles points to claim a 7-0 victory over the Cornhuskers at Nebraska Tennis Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Texas moves to 3-0 in Big 12 conference play and 15-1 on the season. Junior Hubert Chodkiewicz (Corpus Christi, Texas) and senior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas) teamed at No. 2 doubles to defeat Joerg Barthel and Adrian Satzmary of Nebraska in an 8-6 count. The freshman duo consisting of Miguel Reyes Varela (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and Michael Venus (Orlando, Florida) clinched the doubles point for the Longhorns in an 8-5 win over Nebraska's James Clow and Arturo Navarro. In singles action, senior Roger Gubser defeated James Clow at No. 2 in a 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 count, while freshman Michael Venus picked up another victory for Texas with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-7 win over Nebraska's Hendrik Stahmer. Senior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) pushed the lead to 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Milan Mihailovic defeated Renato Melo in a 6-2, 6-2 count. Sophomore Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kansas), ranked No. 7 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, collected his eighth-consecutive singles win by topping Jerry Posch at the No. 1 slot in 6-1, 6-3. Miguel Reyes Varela capped the 7-0 Longhorn win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nebraska's Joerg Barthel.
