Scouting Texas Tech: The Red Raiders, 19-1 overall, are ranked 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll and tied for third in the conference standings with a 1-1 record. Texas Tech is led by freshman Bojan Szumanski and sophomore Radek Nijaki, who are ranked No. 37 and No. 40, respectively, in singles. Szumanski has a 13-1 record overall and is 1-1 in conference, while Nijaki is 8-3 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 action.
Series vs. Texas Tech: This will be the 37th meeting between Texas and Texas Tech. The Longhorns hold a 34-2 advantage in the series dating back to a 9-0 Texas win on March 25, 1975, in Austin. The last meeting between the two teams was April 30, 2004, when Texas fell to the Red Raiders, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships held in Norman, Okla.
Scouting Colorado: The 52nd-ranked Buffaloes are 8-9 overall and tied for fifth in the conference standings with a 1-2 record. CU's two conference losses have come against top-ranked Baylor and 11th-ranked Oklahoma State.
Series vs. Colorado: This marks the 11th meeting between Texas and Colorado. UT holds a 16-0 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to a 5-4 win by the Longhorns on Feb. 1, 1992, at the Notre Dame Invitational held in South Bend, Ind. These two teams last met on March 17, 2004, when Texas defeated Colorado, 6-1, in Boulder.
Texas' Winning Ways: UT has been recognized by the ITA as the winningest men's tennis program in the country. Texas' 1,322 wins makes the school one of only seven Division I programs that have reached the 1,000-win milestone. Georgia is second with 1,094, followed by USC (1,088), Stanford (1,046), UCLA (1,037), Notre Dame (1,010) and Michigan (1,003).
ITA Rankings: Texas is ranked No. 38 in the most recent ITA national team rankings, released on April 5. On an individual note, three Longhorns are ranked in the national poll: junior Callum Beale is 36th, junior Roger Gubser is 65th and freshman Travis Helgeson is 87th. In addition, the duo of Beale and Helgeson are recognized as the No. 50 doubles tandem in the nation. The next set of team and individual rankings will be released April 12 and 19, respectively.
