Men's Tennis preview: Nebraska and Colorado

AUSTIN, Texas -- After going unbeaten during its 11-match home stand, No. 3 Texas (14-1, 2-0) takes to the road for the first time in nearly two months this weekend at it heads to Nebraska and Colorado. UT meets the Cornhuskers on Friday at 2 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb., before taking on Colorado on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Boulder, Colo.

Texas hits the road having won 12 consecutive matches after playing 11 of those matches at home. The Longhorns have not played a road match since Feb. 12, when they defeated Virginia by a 4-3 count in Charlottesville, Va. UT has vaulted from No. 20 to No. 3 in the ITA team rankings during the home stand.

Sophomore All-American Travis Helgeson ( Overland Park, Kan.) ascended to No. 7 in the latest ITA singles ranking after collecting victories last weekend over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Helgeson has won his last seven singles matches, all at the No. 1 position.

Senior Roger Gubser ( Laredo, Texas) ranks 36 th and has captured his last nine matches. Gubser recently moved to the No. 2 singles position and is 4-0 this season at the second slot.

No. 59 Nebraska (10-8, 0-3) enters the weekend after dropping a pair of matches at Denver and Colorado last weekend. UT defeated the Cornhuskers by a 7-0 count a season ago in Austin. Texas owns a 12-1 lead in the overall series between the schools.

No. 28 Colorado (12-5, 3-0) is coming off of consecutive victories over Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Nebraska. UT dealt the Buffaloes a 6-1 defeat last season in Austin. Texas is unbeaten in 11 matches against Colorado.
