No. 11 Men's Tennis blanks Texas-Arlington, 7-0
AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 11 Texas took the doubles point and cruised through singles action on its way to its fourth straight win Friday evening, defeating Texas-Arlington by a 7-0 count at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Texas sophomore Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) and freshman Miguel Reyes Varela (Cuernavaca, Mexico) opened doubles action with an easy 8-0 win over UTA's Alberto Agis and Diego Mattan at the third position. Seconds after Texas-Arlington won at the first position, UT junior Hubert Chodkiewicz (Corpus Christi, Texas) and senior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas) closed out doubles play and clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win over Niels Buksik and Javier Herrera at the second position. Texas maintained control throughout the match, as Reyes Varela quickly added to the Longhorns' lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Ian Vazquez. Gubser followed suit with a win at No. 3, defeating Daniel Omana by a 6-3, 6-2 margin. UT sophomore Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) clinched the match for the Longhorns by defeating UTA's Sandy Farquharson by a 6-2, 6-4 count at first singles. Mihailovic added on to the Texas tally with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alberto Agis at fourth singles. Chodkiewicz set aside UTA's Herrera by a 6-3, 6-3 margin at sixth singles before UT senior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) outlasted Texas-Arlington's Diego Mattan, 6-4, 6-3 to close out the match. Texas will take the remainder of the weekend off before resuming play next Thursday, March 9 against Michigan. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CST at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
