Men's Tennis preview: Tulsa

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 12 Texas will take to the courts Saturday after a long, weather-induced layoff when it meets No 52 Tulsa at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CST.

Saturday's match against the Golden Hurricane was slated to be the fifth in a 12-match home stand for the Longhorns, but the threat of inclement weather wiped out scheduled home matches against UT-Arlington, SMU and No. 2 Pepperdine. Instead, the Tulsa match marks only the second home match of the young season.

Texas and Tulsa each feature three student-athletes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings. UT sophomore Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.) now owns a No. 15 ranking, while senior Callum Beale (Adelaide, Australia) ranks No. 23. Senior Roger Gubser (Laredo, Texas) comes in at No. 30. All three rankings are career highs.

Tulsa features 57th-ranked Arnau Brugues, 85th-ranked Ricardo Soriano and 93rd-ranked Andy Connelly. Texas owns a 6-0 record in its series with Tulsa. The Longhorns defeated the Golden Hurricane by a 7-0 count in February of 2005.
