Texas, Texas A&M Men's Tennis programs to renew Texas Cup in Houston

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas and Texas A&M University men's tennis programs will meet on Friday, Feb. 8 in Houston as the Longhorns and Aggies renew the Texas Cup, a series of non-conference , neutral-site matches played between the two schools from 2001-03.

The Downtown Club at The Met will serve as the host site for this indoor tennis match, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Houston Youth Tennis Association.

"We're excited about bringing this match to our fans in Houston who do not often have a chance to see us play," said UT coach Michael Center, the 2007 USPTA National College Coach of the Year. "We have had tremendous crowds in Houston each time we have played there, and we're looking forward to a big evening."

Texas won all three previous Texas Cup meetings, winning by a 4-2 margin each season. The outcome of next week's match will count toward each team's regular-season record, but it will not affect the Big 12 Conference standings or the State Farm Lone Star Showdown standings.
