Men's Tennis preview: ITA Kickoff Weekend

WHAT: No. 17 Texas (2-0) resumes the 2012 dual-match season this weekend when it serves as one of 15 hosts across the country for ITA Kickoff Weekend matches. A pair of Texas victories would qualify the Longhorns for next month’s ITA National Team Indoor Championships at The University of Virginia. Sunday, Jan. 29 TELEVISION: Longhorn Network (LHN) will offer a live telecast of Sunday’s Texas match. Grant Boone (play-by-play) and Taylor Dent (color analyst) will have the call. WHERE: Penick-Allison Tennis Center - Austin, Texas LIVE SCORING: Available for all four matches at TexasSports.com. LAST TIME OUT: Texas posted a 5-2 win at Rice on Friday, Jan. 20. ITA RANKINGS UPDATE: Texas held the 15th slot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings released Tuesday, Jan. 24. Junior Daniel Whitehead ranks 112th in the preseason singles rankings, while junior Chris Camillone and sophomore David Holiner rank 48th in the preseason doubles rankings. THE 2011-12 LONGHORNS: Texas returns six letterwinners from the 2010-11 squad that reached the round of 32 at the NCAA Championships and the semifinals of the Big 12 Championships.
Sophomore Sudanwa Sitaram registered a 9-6 fall singles record, and junior Chris Camillone notched a 6-5 fall singles record. Texas also welcomes the return of junior Alex Hilliard, who won a pair of matches earlier this month at the Key Biscayne Invitational. Freshmen Soren Hess-Olesen posted a 10-4 fall singles record while reaching the singles finals at a pair of fall events, the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational and the Southwest Shootout. Freshman Jacoby Lewis won four fall singles matches and won the consolation draw at the Southwest Shootout. Newcomer Lloyd Glasspool posted a pair of singles victories in his collegiate debut earlier this month at the Key Biscayne Invitational. Texas also welcomes Australian freshman Joey Swaysland, who made his collegiate debut last week at Rice.
