Men's Tennis preview: SMU

WHAT: The 12th-ranked Longhorns kick off the 2007 dual-match season at No. 39 SMU

WHERE: Dallas Country Club - Dallas, Texas

WHEN: Sunday Jan. 21 - 1 p.m. Central

LAST UT-SMU MEETING: Texas scored a 7-0 victory over SMU on March 26, 2006 at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin; UT owns a 67-22-2 advantage in the overall series between the former Southwest Conference rivals.

ABOUT TEXAS:
Texas returns three letterwinners from the 2006 squad the advanced to the NCAA Final Four in Palo Alto, Calif. Sophomore doubles All-American Miguel Reyes Varela (Cocoyoc, Mexico) totaled a 45-12 overall record a season ago, good for a team-best .789 winning percentage. Steady junior Milan Mihailovic (Nis, Serbia) totaled a 28-10 singles mark last season and figures to move higher in the singles lineup after playing mostly at the No. 4 spot in 2006.

Junior Bernhard Deussner (Vienna, Austria) has played sparingly during his first two seasons in Austin but likely will see more time on the courts in 2007. Senior Hubert Chodkiewicz (Corpus Christi, Texas) will red-shirt during the 2007 season.

Freshman Dimitar Kutrovsky (Sofia, Bulgaria) will make his way toward the top of the singles lineup after turning in a solid fall season, which included his first collegiate singles title at the Texas Invitational.

LAST TIME OUT:
Texas completed competition at the UM Spring Invitational on Jan. 14 in Coral Gables, Fla.  The Longhorns posted a 9-9 singles mark for the tournament.
