Goldhoff wins singles event at USTA National Winter Championships
Jan. 2, 2013 SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – University of Texas men’s tennis signee George Goldhoff won the USTA National Winter Championships Boys’ 18 singles event at Scottsdale Ranch Park on Wednesday. Goldhoff, the top seed in the field of 128, defeated No. 7 seed David Hsu in three sets (2-6, 6-0, 6-3) in the final round. The Irvine, Calif., native is the first Longhorn signee to win that tournament since Travis Helgeson won it in 2004. “I couldn’t be happier for George. Winning a gold ball in singles and a silver in doubles shows that his hard work is paying off,” Texas head coach Michael Center said. “I watched him and couldn’t have been more impressed with his poise and attitude on the court. I look for George to continue to improve and be in those situations many times in the future.” Goldhoff is the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2013 and signed with the Longhorns on Nov. 15, 2012.
