AUSITN, Texas – On the last day of the UT Invitational, senior Ben Chen finished as the runner-up in the Singles B Draw against Orlando Superlano of TCU at Penick-Allison Tennis Center on Sunday.
Superlano defeated Chen in three sets – 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Down 1-4 in the first set, Chen rallied for a 3-1 run and used his momentum to win the second set, 6-1. Superlano edged Chen in the final set, 6-3.
“I thought Ben played a great match and competed very well,” head coach Michael Center said. “There were a couple mistakes here and there in the match, but I was really pleased with his competitiveness. It was a really good final.”
In the Singles A Draw final, Matija Pecotic of Princeton defeated Dane Webb of OU. The two Oklahoma teams in the Doubles Draw final opted not to play on Sunday.
Next up, senior Daniel Whitehead will travel to New York for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships beginning this Thursday, Nov. 8. The UT Invitational was the last team event of the fall season.
