Men's Tennis send seven to singles quarterfinals at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas secured seven of eight quarterfinals slots in the main singles draw and added four doubles quarterfinals berths on day one of the three-day Texas Invitational Friday at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Top-seeded Dimitar Kutrovsky advanced to the quarterfinals with a straight-set win over UT-Arlington's Dmitry Minkin. The Bulgarian will take on a fellow countryman, UT freshman Vasko Mladenov, in Saturday's quarters. Mladenov rallied for a three-set win over Laredo's Cledson Carvalho in the round of 32 before defeating Rice's Isamu Tachibana in straight sets. Freshman Daniel Whitehead moved on to the singles quarters with a straight-set win over UT-Arlington's Brieuc Hamon and a three-set win over UT senior Josh Zavala. Whitehead will take on Baylor's Attila Bucko on Saturday. Freshman Chris Camillone joined Whitehead in the quarters with a straight-set win over Marquette's Nicholas Bulleris and a 7-5, 6-4 win over Marquette's Dusan Medan in the round of 16. Camillone will take on UT junior Kellen Damico in the quarters. Damico posted a straight-set win over UT senior Jon Wiegand in the round of 16. Redshirt freshman Alex Hilliard enjoyed a breakthrough performance with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Baylor's 113th-ranked Julian Bley in the round of 32 and a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rice's Michael Nusslein in the round of 16. On Saturday, Hilliard will meet UT junior Ed Corrie, fresh off of his title victory at the ITA Texas Regional Championships. Corrie posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over Baylor's Maros Horny to reach the quarters.
