Corrie advances to singles finals at ITA Texas Regional Championships
Oct. 27, 2009
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas junior Ed Corrie stands one win away from earning a berth in the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships after advancing to the singles finals Tuesday at the ITA Texas Regional Championships. Corrie dealt Baylor's Jordan Rux a 6-4, 6-2 defeat in the quarterfinals, and UT senior Dimitar Kutrovsky knocked off Rice's Michael Nusslein by a 7-6, 6-1 count in the quarterfinals to set up a semifinals meeting against Corrie. However, Kutrovsky defaulted the match, which enabled Corrie to advance to the finals, where Corrie will meet Texas Tech's Raony Carvalho on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Central. "Ed has played aggressively in this tournament," UT head coach Michael Center said. "His serve and his net play have improved, and he showed his aggressiveness again today. There was a lot of variety and toughness in his game. He has taken it up to another level." ITA Texas Regional Championships
