Men's Tennis sends six to round of 32 at ITA Texas Regional Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas qualified six student-athletes for the singles round of 32 Saturday evening on day one of the ITA Texas Regional Championships at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center Twelfth-seeded junior Jean Andersen opened the event with a 6-1, 6-2 win over TCU's Santiago Centeno. Andersen will meet Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Laurent Montoisy in Sunday's round of 32. Sophomore Daniel Whitehead posted a 6-0, 7-5 win over Texas A&M's Calon Alpar to set up a Sunday meeting against UTSA's Martin Ayala in the round of 32. Sophomore Vasko Mladenov tallied a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 win over UTSA's Pedro Zanotelli and will take on Rice's Michael Nusslein on Sunday. Freshman Sudanwa Sitaram notched a 7-6 (8), 6-1 win over Texas Tech's David Pace and will meet Baylor's Roberto Maytin in the round of 32. UT sophomore Ben Chen posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over UT-Arlington's David Subirats and will meet Texas A&M's Jeff Dadamo in the round of 32. Texas senior Ed Corrie, the tournament's second seed, knocked off UT-Arlington's Jason Lateko by a 6-1, 6-3 count. He will take on Rice's Peter Frank in the round of 32.
