FORT WORTH, Texas – Senior Daniel Whitehead and junior Sudanwa Sitaram each won two matches on Sunday to advance to the Quarterfinals of the singles draw during the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships at Friedman Tennis Center.
Whitehead made his way to the quarterfinals with two-set victories over No. 29 seed Gabriel Wanderley of Texas Tech and Peter Nagy of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Sitaram cruised by Odon Barta (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) in the round of 32 before defeating teammate Lloyd Glasspool in the round of 16.
In the doubles draw, top-seeded Chris Camillone and David Holiner advanced to semifinals with two victories on Sunday. The pair defeated Sebastian Erimicioiu of UT-Arlington in the round of 16 and 6th-seeded Julian Lenz and Mate Zsiga of Baylor, 8-6.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of the singles draw will be played on Monday, as will the semifinals of the doubles draw. Final rounds for both draws will be played on Tuesday.
The winners of the singles and doubles draw advance to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Championships, which are Nov. 8-10 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
