Mladenov advances to qualifying singles draw at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. -- Texas freshman Vasko Mladenov tallied a pair of straight-set singles victories to advance to the qualifying singles draw Sunday on day two of the ITA All-American Championships. Mladenov (Sofia, Bulgaria) opened the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win over UTSA’s Martin Ayala in the pre-qualifying singles round of 64. Mladenov added a 6-4, 6-1 win over Oklahoma’s George Chanturia in the round of 32 to secure a berth in the qualifying singles draw, where competition begins on Monday. Seniors Jon Wiegand and Rook Schellenberg suffered straight-set defeats and were eliminated in the pre-qualifying round of 64. Georgia Tech’s Eliot Potvin defeated Wiegand by a 7-5, 6-4 count, and SMU’s Bryan Griffin eliminated Schellenberg, 6-4, 6-4. Mladenov joins senior Josh Zavala in the qualifying singles draw and will team up with junior Ed Corrie in the qualifying doubles draw. ITA All-American Championships
