Men's Tennis notches seven wins on opening day of Rice Fall Classic

HOUSTON - Texas secured seven singles and doubles wins in multiple flights Friday on day one of the Rice Fall Classic at the Owls' Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. Sophomore Daniel Whitehead defeated LSU's Mark Bowtell by a 6-2, 6-2 count to set up an "A" singles flight semifinal match Saturday against UT-Arlington's Mindaugas Celedinas. Freshman Sudanwa Sitaram notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over UT-Arlington's Lucas Leppin and will take on LSU's Stefan Szacinski in the second "A" singles semifinal. Sophomore Ben Chen tallied a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Laurent Montoisy and will meet LSU's Julien Gauthier in Saturday's "B" singles semifinals. Sophomore Alex Hilliard outlasted UT-Arlington's David Subirats by a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) count in the opening match of the "D" singles flight. Hilliard will take on LSU's Roger Anderson in Saturday's semifinals. All three Texas doubles pairs were victorious in their opening matches and will continue play Saturday in the semifinals of their respective doubles flights. Rice Fall Classic
