MIDLAND, Texas -- Texas sophomore Daniel Whitehead suffered a three-set defeat in the men's singles semifinals Sunday on the final day of the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. Whitehead (Sugar Land, Texas) took the first set off of San Diego's Dean Jackson, 6-4, but Jackson rallied to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-2 to win the match. "Last year, Daniel got to the quarterfinals of this event, and this year he reached the semifinals," UT assistant coach Ricardo Rubio said. "He had a real shot to get to the finals here, but nonetheless, Daniel has made big improvements in his game. He played a lot of matches this summer, and it showed. We expect him to make great contributions this year." Texas resumes play on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic in St. Helena, Calif. Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational
