No. 15 Men's Tennis defeats Oklahoma, 4-0
April 24, 2009 NORMAN, Okla. -- Third-seeded Texas (18-5) took the doubles point and added three singles wins in a 4-0 win over host Oklahoma (12-10) Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Big 12 Championships at OU’s Headington Family Tennis Center. The Longhorns advance to Saturday’s semifinals, where they will take on second-seeded Texas A&M, who defeated Texas by a 4-3 count on April 16 in College Station. Texas opened the match with a dominant doubles performance to take a 1-0 lead. UT opened with a win at third doubles, where senior Miguel Reyes Varela and junior Olivier Sajous posted an 8-1 win over Blake Boswell and George Chanturia. Texas clinched the doubles point at the second slot, where juniors Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala hung an 8-3 defeat on Andrei Daescu and David Pultr. The remaining match at first doubles was suspended after the doubles point had been clinched. Texas senior Jonah Kane-West quickly dispatched OU’s Boswell at sixth singles, 6-3, 6-1 to push the Longhorns’ lead to 2-0. UT’s Damico dealt OU’s Ionut Beleleu a 6-2, 6-1 defeat at second singles, and Zavala closed out the victory for Texas with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Chanturia at fifth singles.
