No. 13 Men's Tennis tops Oklahoma State, 5-2

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 13 Texas (14-6, 1-1 Big 12) swept the doubles session and won four of six singles matches on its way to a 5-2 win over Oklahoma State (7-9, 0-2 Big 12) Sunday afternoon at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Longhorns utilized a strong effort in doubles play to sweep the three doubles matches and assume a 1-0 lead. At third doubles, UT’s Ben Chen and Soren Hess-Olesen broke the serve of OSU’s Brandon Champagne and Trevor Horstmann early in their match at third doubles and cruised to an 8-2 victory. UT’s Alex Hilliard and Sudanwa Sitaram trailed 5-4 in their match at second doubles against the Cowboys’ Christopher Haworth and Eric West before breaking for a 6-5 lead. The Horns held on for an 8-6 win to preserve the doubles point. Texas’ 27th-ranked tandem of Chris Camillone and David Holiner edged OSU’s Vlad Bondarenko and Rifat Biktyakov in a tiebreaker at first doubles, 7-4 to complete the doubles sweep. Texas needed little time to clinch the victory over the Cowboys. Holiner posted his eighth consecutive win, as he registered a 6-0, 6-2 win over OSU’s Horstmann at fifth singles. Hilliard staked Texas to a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Champagne at sixth singles. Texas clinched the victory at first singles, where the 64th-ranked Hess-Olesen defeated the Cowboys’ Bondarenko, 6-3, 6-0.
OSU picked up wins at third and fourth singles before UT’s Sitaram closed out the win with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Biktyakov at second singles.
