No. 4 Texas stops Oklahoma State, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 4 Texas (17-2, 1-0 Big 12) took the doubles point and claimed five of six singles matches on its way to a 6-1 win over Oklahoma State in the conference opener Friday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The Horns and Cowboys opened the doubles session by splitting a pair of matches at the second and first slots. With the doubles point up for grabs at third doubles, Texas prevailed, as freshman Daniel Whitehead and sophomore Jean Andersen knocked off Oklahoma State's Maximilian Kuhn and Ilija Martinoski.
OSU's Oleksandr Nedovyesov evened the match at one with a 6-3, 6-3 win over UT senior Dimitar Kutrovsky at first singles, but Texas would shut out Oklahoma State the rest of the way. UT senior Josh Zavala put the Horns up for good at fifth singles, where he defeated Eric West by a 6-2, 6-4 count. UT assumed a 3-1 lead at fourth singles, where Andersen posted a 7-6, 7-6 win over Martinoski.
Texas junior Kellen Damico clinched the Longhorns' victory at third singles, where he outlasted Aleksey Bessonov, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. UT freshman Vasko Mladenov staked Texas to a 5-1 lead at sixth singles with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Kuhn. UT's 12th-ranked Ed Corrie wrapped up the Texas win at second singles with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win over OSU's 75th-ranked Anton Bobytskyi.
Texas continues Big 12 Conference play on Sunday, March 28 when it hosts No. 19 Oklahoma at 1 p.m. Central.
