No. 14 Men's Tennis tops No. 16 Auburn, 4-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 14 Texas (8-3) claimed the doubles point and added singles wins from Sudanwa Sitaram, Daniel Whitehead and Lloyd Glasspool in a 4-2 victory over No. 16 Auburn (7-2) late Sunday in the final round of consolation play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Texas, who sealed its win over the Tigers after midnight Eastern time, now boasts four victories over ITA top-20 opponents this season. The Horns finish their stint at the event with a 2-1 mark after falling to third-seeded Ohio State on Friday and defeating 11th-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday. Texas secured the doubles point with victories at the third and second doubles positions. Sitaram and Whitehead led off with an 8-3 win at the third slot over the Tigers’ Dennis Lengsfeld and Lucas Lopasso. The Longhorns clinched the doubles point at the second slot, where junior Chris Camillone and sophomore David Holiner held off Auburn’s Andy Mies and Lukas Ollert, 8-6. The remaining match at first doubles was suspended. Auburn evened the match at fifth singles, where Ollert posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over UT’s Camillone. The Longhorns reclaimed the lead at third singles, where UT’s Sitaram notched a 6-2, 7-6 win over Dan Cochrane. Texas pushed the lead to 3-1 when the 69th-ranked Whitehead posted a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Auburn’s Alex Stamchev at second singles. Auburn closed the gap to 3-2 behind a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win from Lopasso over UT’s Holiner at sixth singles, but Glasspool, a first-semester freshman, closed out the match with a win at fourth singles, where he outlasted Auburn’s Lengsfeld, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. The remaining match at first singles, with UT’s Hess-Olesen one game away from a win over Auburn’s 23rd-ranked Mies, was suspended given that Texas had clinched the team victory.
