No. 23 Men's Tennis wins 16th consecutive season opener

Texas 5, SMU 2 DALLAS, Texas - No. 23 Texas men's tennis won its 16th consecutive season-opening dual match on Saturday by defeating SMU, 5-2, at the Dallas Country Club. The Longhorns improved to 13-0 in season openers under head coach Michael Center. SMU began the match by defeating two of UT's nationally ranked pairs to win the doubles point. The Longhorns would bounce back in singles competition with wins in five of the six matches for a final of 5-2. With the win UT improves to 34-17 against SMU since 1975, including a 26-2 mark in the last 28 matches. The Longhorns finished the match with five consecutive singles victories, including a momentum-shifting win for No. 43 Daniel Whitehead in three sets over Gaston Cuadranti in No. 2 singles. No. 98 Nick Naumann, Lloyd Glasspool, Andrew Korinek and Ben Chen all picked up wins for Texas in singles play. No. 40 Sudanwa Sitaram and Daniel Whitehead defeated Nate Lammons and Ross Peets in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Texas returns to action next weekend, facing No. 25 Washington on Saturday, Jan. 19 and No. 17 Tulsa and on Sunday, Jan. 20. Both dual matches are in Tulsa, Okla. Results Doubles Singles |
