Men's Tennis adds 15 wins on day two of Key Biscayne Invitational

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. -- Texas claimed seven of eight doubles matches and eight of nine singles matches Saturday to highlight day two at the Key Biscayne Invitational.
Starting off in doubles action against Alabama, sophomores Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico defeated Dan Buikema and Saketh Myneni by a 9-7 count. Juniors Josh Zavala and Dimitar Kutrovsky posted an 8-2 win over Billy Mertz and Michael Thompson, and junior Jon Wiegand and senior Miguel Reyes Varela tallied an 8-2 win over Trey Walston and Andrew Felsenthal. Senior Jonah Kane-West and junior Olivier Sajous added a 9-8 win over the Tide's John Lewis and Houssam Yassine.
Texas added three more doubles wins over Georgia Tech. Kutrovsky and Zavala edged Miguel Muguruza and Ryan Smith by a 9-8 count, and Sajous and Reyes Varela teamed up for an 8-4 defeat of Guillermo Gomez and Eliot Potvin. Wiegand and Corrie chipped in an 8-2 win over Doug Kenny and Kevin King.
The Longhorns recorded victories in eight of nine matches against Michigan. Kutrovsky defeated Jason Jung, 6-4, 6-3, and Sajous dealt Andrew Mazlin a 6-2, 6-0 defeat. Damico knocked off Mike Sroczynski by a 6-4, 63- count, and Corrie topped Peter Aarts, 6-3, 6-1. Miguel Reyes Varela defeated Chris Madden in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, and Zavala defeated Drew Daniel, 6-2, 6-4.
Wiegand registered a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over George Navas, and Kane-West added a 6-3, 6-2 win over David Streeter.
Texas wraps up the Key Biscayne Invitational on Sunday with singles action against Alabama.
