Third day of Texas Invitational under way

AUSTIN, Texas - The men's swimming and diving team entered Saturday in first place and set themselves up well for the finals on Saturday with strong results in the prelims at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. 

The men opened with the 200-yard backstroke. Leading the Longhorns was Cole Cragin with the overall fifth fastest time at 1:44.24. He will be swimming in the A finals with Kip Darmody who had a time of 1:45.21.  The Longhorns will have four swimmers in the B finals including Timothy Johnson, Austin Surhoff, Conor Swanson and Nick Allen.

For the 100-yard freestyle, James Feigen led the team with a time of 43.37, tied for the second fastest time overall. Dax Hill and Clay Youngquist will swim tonight in the B finals, joined by Kerrington Hill in the C finals, and Kyle McNeilis in the D finals.

Two Longhorns will be swimming in the 200-yard breaststroke A finals tonight. Nick D'Innocenzo led the team with a time of 1:55.50 followed by Eric Friedland who posted a time of 1:58.49.  Also swimming tonight will be Keegan Severns (C finals), Matt Hoylan (C finals), Conor Swanson (D finals), and Ian Carbone (D finals).


 

 

Neil Caskey led the Longhorns in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:46.10, the second best time overall. He will be joined in the A finals by Clay Youngquist, who qualified with a time of 1:48.07.  The B finals will feature two Longhorns including Madison Gibson, and Grant Rogers.  Also swimming tonight in the C finals will be Patrick Murphy, Woody Joye, and Matthew Belecanech.

The platform diving concluded this afternoon. Matt Cooper took first place overall with 442.75 points. Ryan Anthony placed fourth with 229.20 points.

The men's team entered Saturday in first place (666 points), followed by the University of Arizona (609 points) and the University of Southern California (493 points).

Saturday night will begin at 6 p.m. with the start of swimming finals.
