Men's Swimming and Diving preview: Southern California

Last Year's Meet: The fifth-ranked University of Texas men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 8 Southern California, 240.50-112.50, after the second day of dual-meet competition at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center on Oct. 30.
Texas' Christian Schurr and Matthew Lowe took second and third, in the 100-yard backstroke, with times of 56.40 and 57.26, respectively.
The USC men led Texas 109.50-57.50 after Friday's first day of competition. Despite falling to the Trojans in Saturday's opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, Texas placed three relays squads in the top four spots.
Senior Andrew Davidson, Matt Molnar, senior Daniel DiToro and sophomore Tyler O'Halloran turned in the top time for Texas in the event, touching the wall in 1:30.60.
Last Time Out: The University of Texas men's swimming and diving teams defeated Florida, 243-127, but fell to California, 162-208, in dual meet action at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
The Longhorns (1-1) entered the meet with California (2-0) and Florida (2-2) looking to start off the season strong against two visiting nation powers. California also defeated Florida 247-123.
The Longhorns saved their best for last, winning the last event of the meet, the 800-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 6:36.05. The relay team of freshman Michael Klueh, junior Garrett Weber-Gale, sophomore Caleb McDermott and sophomore Matthew McGinnis qualified under B standard.
McGinnis also finished first overall in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:36.66, to qualify under B standard.
Junior Bailey Gao took first place overall in the 1-meter diving competition with a total of 332.45 points. He also won the 3-meter diving competition.
