Men's Swimming and Diving preview: Missouri, SMU, Texas A&M (Southwest Collegiate Plunge)

WHAT: Texas opens the 2009-10 season with the Southwest Collegiate Plunge, which features UT, Missouri, SMU and Texas A&M. WHEN: Friday, Oct. 23 - 7 p.m. Central; Saturday, Oct. 24 - 11 a.m. Central WHERE: Mansfield ISD Natatorium - Mansfield, Texas EVENTS: Saturday, Oct. 24 THE 2009-10 LONGHORNS: Under the direction of 32nd-year head coach Eddie Reese, the Texas men's swimming and diving roster features a pair of Olympic gold medalists and world champions in seniors Ricky Berens and Dave Walters. Sophomore Jackson Wilcox joined Berens and Walters to compete at the FINA World Championships this summer in Rome. Also returning is junior Scott Spann, a finalist in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Beijing Olympics. The Longhorns return 11 All-Americans from the 2008-09 squad that placed second at the NCAA Championships and earned UT's 24th top-three NCAA finish under Reese. CollegeSwimming.com ranks Texas' class of nine newcomers as the second-best in the nation. The class features a pair of current and former national high school record holders in Cole Cragin and Nick D'Innocenzo.
Cragin holds the national mark in the 100-yard backstroke (46.75) and D'Innocenzo once held the national mark in the 200-yard individual medley.
