Crocker, Weber-Gale advance to semifinals at Beijing Olympics

BEIJING -- Texas-Exes Ian Crocker and Garrett Weber-Gale registered semifinal-qualifying performances in the 100-meter butterfly and 50m freestyle, respectively, Thursday evening at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Crocker, the world record holder in the 100m butterfly, placed third in heat eight with a time of 51.95 seconds to qualify 13th for the semifinals. Milorad Cavic of Serbia qualified first in 50.76, and American Michael Phelps qualified second in 50.87. Crocker's 100m butterfly semifinal will air live Thursday on NBC at 10:24 p.m. Central. Weber-Gale, a new gold medalist and world record holder in the 4x100m freestyle relay for Team USA, placed third in the 11th preliminary heat of the 50m freestyle in 21.95 to qualify ninth for the semifinals. France's Amaury Leveaux landed the top seed in 21.46. Weber-Gale's 50m freestyle semifinal will air live Thursday on NBC at 9:07 p.m. Central.
