McGinnis wins gold at World University Games
BANGKOK -- University of Texas senior Matt McGinnis helped Team USA to a gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle relay Friday afternoon at the 2007 World University Games. McGinnis (Raleigh, N.C.) led off the relay in 49.61, topping his previous personal best at that distance by over one-half of a second, as Team USA took the gold in a meet-record time of 3:16.06. The new mark topped the previous world record of 3:19.44 set by Team USA at the 1995 World University Games in Fukuoka, Japan. McGinnis completed the relay's second leg in the preliminary round, and UT junior Michael Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) completed the anchor leg.
