Tyler O'Halloran's World University Games journal: Aug. 2
Greetings from the other side of the world! We're on day four of our week-long training camp in Singapore before flying to Bangkok, Thailand for the World University Games. We've been spending the past few days getting used to the time change after the short 25-hour trip from Austin to San Francisco, Calif., to Hong Kong to Singapore.
The highlight of the week thus far was an overly classy reception with the U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, Patricia L. Herbold. It was one of the most upscale events I've been to, and, of course, we showed up wearing T-shirts and athletic shorts.
Anyway, in an effort to further University of Texas political and diplomatic relations, we thought it was best to get a picture with the four of us (Michael Klueh, Matt McGinnis, Matt Lowe, and myself) along with former UT swimmer and coach Brian Schrader with Ambassador Herbold.
We apologize for not asking Ambassador Herbold to hold up the "Hook 'em, Horns" sign, but sometimes a hand signal in one culture means something else in another culture...so we didn't want to take any chances.
That's all for now from the South Pacific.
Hook 'em, Horns!
