Men's Swimming and Diving summer notebook: July 30
AUSTIN, Texas -- Jonathan Wilcox, a former two-time All-America diver at the University of Florida, has signed an athletics scholarship agreement (ASA) with the University of Texas men's swimming and diving program and will be eligible for competition beginning this fall. Wilcox will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Wilcox (Bellevue, Wash.) earned All-America honors at the 2006 NCAA Championships when he placed eighth on the one-meter springboard with a score of 301.40. Wilcox added an honorable mention All-America selection in the platform event by taking 15th place. Current and Former Longhorns Win Five Medals at Pan American Games Rising sophomore Ricky Berens enjoyed a stellar meet with one gold and two silver medals. Berens (Charlotte, N.C.) helped the Americans to gold in the 400-meter medley relay by swimming the relay's butterfly leg. Berens put his versatility on display with a pair of outstanding legs in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle relays, where Team USA won silver. Former UT All-America diver Troy Dumais teamed up with Mitch Richeson to win gold in the three-meter synchronized diving event for Team USA before taking the bronze on the three-meter springboard. UT assistant men's swimming coach Kris Kubik and head diving coach Matt Scoggin served as assistant coaches for Team USA. National Championships Await Longhorns Swimmers and Divers The swimmers will head to Indianapolis, Ind., this week for the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships. The event runs Tuesday, July 31 through Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Indiana University Natatorium. A live web cast will be available each day beginning at 8:30 a.m. Eastern at usaswimming.sportnet.com. The divers will begin competition on July 31 at the 2007 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif. A live web cast will be available at that event on Saturday, Aug. 4 and Sunday, Aug. 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at attblueroom.com/teamusa. Four Swimmers Heading to World University Games Klueh (Evansville, Ind.) will compete in the 400- and 1,500-meter freestyle events and will join McGinnis in the 800-meter freestyle relay. O'Halloran (Boardman, Ohio) will join Lowe in the 100-meter breaststroke.
