Cooper advances to finals at USA Diving Championships

PASADENA, Calif. -- University of Texas rising sophomore diver Matt Cooper teamed with Harrison Jones to hold the top spot in the three-meter synchronized diving preliminary round Tuesday at the 2008 Kaiser Permanente USA Diving National Championships. Cooper (Bethesda, Md.) and Jones totaled 358.71 to lead the 11-team event after the preliminary round, outdistancing the second-place team of Landon Marzullo and Taylor Roberts, who totaled 336.84. Rising junior Mike Wong (Cerritos, Calif.) joined Rex Hughes to place seventh in the preliminary round at 298.80. Wong and Hughes also advanced to Sunday's finals.
