Walters takes second in 100m freestyle at USA Swimming National Championships
July 10, 2009 INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Texas rising senior Dave Walters placed second in the 100-meter freestyle Friday evening at the 2009 USA Swimming National Championships to nail down his second individual berth for this month's FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy. Walters (Yorktown, Va.), a 2008 Beijing Olympian, secured his second individual berth to compete at this month's FINA World Championships by taking second in the 100-meter freestyle in 48.17 seconds. Texas-Ex Garrett Weber-Gale took third in 48.19, and UT rising senior Ricky Berens placed sixth in 48.44. With their top-six individual finishes, Weber-Gale and Berens will be members of Team USA's 400m freestyle relay group at the FINA World Championships, though Berens had already secured a berth on the U.S. world championships squad with a top-six finish in the 200-meter freestyle. UT rising sophomore Jimmy Feigen took seventh in 48.46. Rising junior Scott Jostes took second in the 100m freestyle "C" final at 49.44, and rising senior Peter Jameson took sixth in 50.17. Incoming UT freshman Nick D'Innocenzo (Andover, Mass.) placed fifth in the 200m individual medley final in 1:59.71, and rising UT junior Bryan Collins (Mount Airy, Md.) took sixth in 2:00.98.
