Men's Diving finishes competition at NCAA Zone D Diving Regional Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- University of Texas sophomore Jessica Livingston (Houston, Texas) and three other UT women's divers earned a trip to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Sunday.

Livingston won the platform competition with a score of 585.05 to earn her first Zone medalist honors after finishing runner-up in the women's 3-meter competition on Saturday.

She joins junior Bailey Gao (Delta, British Columbia) who won the men's 1-meter on Saturday to earn medalist honors for the first time.

After the women's divers placed three in the top five spots in both the 1- and 3-meter dives on the first two days of competition, freshman Kara-Jayne Salamone (Cooper City, Fla.) finished the day in fourth-place on the platform with a score of 491.50 to secure her trip to the NCAAs.

Junior Mary Yarrison (Springfield, Va.) and freshman Kathryn Kelly (Longwood, Fla.) will also join Livingston and Salamone for Texas. Yarrison took ninth-place in the platform (394.50) after finishing fourth off both the 1- and 3-meter boards. Kelly finished third off 1-meter and fifth off 3-meter, but did not compete in the platform competition.

For the men, sophomore Brian Smith (Carrollton, Texas) finished the Zone with a fourth-place finish in the platform competition with a score of 483.70. He also took fifth-place in the 3-meter and seventh-place in the 1-meter competition.

Qualification for the NCAA Championships is dependent on a diver's qualifying at the Zone meet. In this year's Zone D meet, there were five spots available on the men's side and Texas took four out of the six available on the women's side.

The women's championships will be held in Athens, Ga., at The University of Georgia on March 16-18, while the men will head to Atlanta, Ga., and Georgia Tech on March 23-25.
