Chandler qualifies for NCAA Championships

HOUSTON - Texas redshirt sophomore diver Will Chandler placed second in the one-meter diving event and secured a NCAA Championships berth Monday on day one of the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet at The University of Houston. The top-two finishers in the men's one-meter event were assured of NCAA Championships berths, and Chandler delivered with his second-place total of 741.20 points. Missouri's David Bonuchi took first and earned the other bid available Monday with 787.10 points. Chandler earns his second NCAA Championships berth after taking a medical redshirt last season. UT freshman Cory Bowersox placed fourth with 692.15 points. Bowersox will claim a NCAA Championships berth on Tuesday if he places among the top two in the three-meter event or if Bonuchi and Chandler both finish among the top-two finishers in the three-meter event. UT freshman Sean O'Brien took ninth place in the one-meter event with 638.55 points, and junior William McCraney placed 11th with 629.50 points. Sophomore Ryan Anthony took 17th place with 569.00 points. The Texas divers will resume competition on Tuesday in the three-meter event at 5:30 p.m. CT.
