Men's Swimming and Diving lands 15 on Academic All-Big 12 Team
IRVING, Texas -- Led by a trio of three-time honorees in seniors Matt McGinnis, Daniel Rohleder and Chris Seitz, the second-ranked University of Texas men's swimming and diving team landed a league-leading 15 student-athletes on the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the league announced Tuesday. Notably, McGinnis was one of two Big 12 student-athletes to earn a 4.0 GPA in each of the past two semesters. Joining McGinnis, Seitz and Rohleder on the Academic All-Big 12 first team was sophomore Ricky Berens, senior Jeremy Harris, sophomore Trey Hoover, junior Michael Klueh, senior Matt Lowe, and sophomores Hill Taylor, Jim Robertson, Ben Van Roekel, Dave Walters, Andrew Wang and Dustin Wise. Junior Sean Patton was named to the second team. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's swimming & diving Academic All-Big 12 squad consisted of 30 first-team members and six second-team selections. First team honorees consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and second-team members maintained a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. Texas begins competition in the 2008 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Texas' Academic All-Big 12 Selections Second Team
