Men's Swimming and Diving leads league with 14 Academic All-Big 12 selections
Feb. 24, 2009 IRVING, Texas -- The third-ranked University of Texas men's swimming and diving team earned a league-leading 14 selections Tuesday to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Swimming and Diving Team. Earning their second consecutive first-team Academic All-Big 12 selections were senior Michael Klueh and juniors Ricky Berens, Trey Hoover, Hill Taylor, Ben Van Roekel and Dustin Wise. Junior Scott Drews and sophomore Scott Jostes earned their first career first-team selections to the Academic All-Big 12 Team. Senior Sean Patton joined juniors Jim Robertson, Dave Walters and Andrew Wang and sophomores Bryan Collins and Brian Wilson on the Academic All-Big 12 second team. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's swimming and diving Academic All-Big 12 squad consisted of 24 first-team members and nine second-team selections. First team honorees consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and second-team members maintained a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. Texas begins competition Wednesday in the 2009 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbia, Mo. 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Swimming and Diving Team Second Team |
