Eighteen Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving athletes named to All-Big 12 academic teams

DALLAS -- The Big 12 Conference announced the 2006 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Big 12 First and Second Teams, recognized among them were 18 student-athletes from The University of Texas. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the Second Team selections are those individuals who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 or higher GPA either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfer students are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

On the women's teams were nine other members of the Texas women's swimming and diving program, while the men's Academic All-Big 12 teams boasted nine student-athletes from UT.

Junior Stephanie Anderson (Scottsdale, Ariz.), junior Elaine Ferritto (Columbus, Ohio), sophomore Delia Huang (Austin, Texas), senior Ashley Razo (Woodbridge, Va.), junior Celeste Rogers (San Antonio, Texas), senior Kristin Siminski (Portage, Ind.) and senior Elizabeth Wycliffe (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) all earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 recognition.

Junior Leah Avilla (Livermore, Calif.) and sophomore Macie Garrett (Nashville, Tenn.), meanwhile, were named second-team All-Big 12 selections.

On the men's side, first-team Academic All-Big 12 members included junior David Donaldson (San Antonio, Texas), sophomore Matthew McGinnis (Raleigh, N.C.), senior Matthew Molnar (Auburn, Ala.), junior Tyler O'Halloran (Boardman, Ohio), junior Poston Pritchett (Durham, N.C.), sophomore Daniel Rohleder (Austin, Texas), sophomore Christopher Seitz (Taylor Mill, Ky.) and sophomore Brian Smith (Carrollton, Texas).

Additionally, senior Wade Kelley (Marietta, Ga.) earned second-team Academic All-Big 12 recognition.

The Longhorns men's and women's squads are competing at the 2005 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships to be held Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 22-25, at the Mizzou Aquatics Center in Columbia, Mo. Texas currently leads both the women's and men's competitions through two days of competition.
