No. 1 Men's Swimming and Diving leads league with 16 Academic All-Big 12 selections
Feb. 23, 2010 IRVING, Texas -- The top-ranked University of Texas men's swimming and diving team earned a league-leading 16 selections Tuesday to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Swimming and Diving Team. Earning their third consecutive first-team selections were seniors Trey Hoover, Hill Taylor and Ben Van Roekel. Senior Ricky Berens, a second-team honoree, earned his third overall selection to the team. Texas' two-time first-team honorees include juniors Scott Jostes and Dustin Wise. Sophomores Jimmy Feigen, Eric Friedland, Drew Livingston and Kyle McNeilis earned first-team selections in their first season of eligibility for the Academic All-Big 12 Team. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's swimming and diving Academic All-Big 12 squad consisted of 24 first-team members and five second-team selections. First team honorees consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and second-team members maintained a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
