Twenty-six Swimming and Diving student-athletes earn 2005 Academic All-Big 12 Conference recognition

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference announced the 2005 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Big 12 First and Second Teams on Wednesday, Feb. 23, and 26 student-athletes from The University of Texas were recognized. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the Second Team selections are those individuals who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 or higher GPA either cumulative or over the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfer students are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Among the honorees, senior Paige Nath (Wichita, Kan.) was one of five student-athletes in the Big 12 Conference with a 4.00 grade point average. Joining her on the women's teams were 14 other members of the Texas women's swimming and diving program, while the men's Academic All-Big 12 teams boasted 11 student-athletes from UT.

Sophomore Stephanie Anderson (Scottsdale, Ariz.), sophomore Leah Avilla (Livermore, Calif.), senior Elizabeth Hoffman (Houston, Texas), junior Amanda Larence (Nashville, Tenn.), junior Ashley Razo (Woodbridge, Va.), sophomore Katie Robinson (Dillsboro, Ind.), sophomore Celeste Rogers (San Antonio, Texas), senior Alisa Schuknecht, junior Kristin Siminski (Portage, Ind.), junior Elizabeth Wycliffe (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) and senior Monica Maxwell (San Jose, Calif.) all earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 recognition.

Sophomore Elaine Ferritto (Columbus, Ohio), junior Tracey Hemmerle (Harleysville, Pa.) and senior Michelle Molina (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), meanwhile, were named second-team All-Big 12 selections.

On the men's side, first-team Academic All-Big 12 members included junior David Kahn (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), junior Matthew Molnar (Auburn, Ala.), sophomore Tyler O'Halloran (Boardman, Ohio), junior John Patterson (Houston, Texas), sophomore Poston Pritchett (Durham, N.C.).

Additionally, sophomore Blake Copple (Boise, Idaho), senior Daniel DiToro (Brant Rock, Mass.), junior Wade Kelley (Marietta, Ga.), senior Austin McAnally (McKinney, Texas), senior John Nabors (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Garrett Weber-Gale (Fox Point, Wis.) all earned second-team Academic All-Big 12 recognition.

The Longhorns men's and women's squads will compete at the 2005 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships to be held Wednesday - Saturday, Feb. 23-26, at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
