Men's Swimming & Diving lands 12 on Big 12 All-Academic team

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Longhorns had 12 athletes selected to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Team league officials announced Tuesday. Matthew Belecanech (Education), Ian Carbone (Liberal Arts), Cole Cragin (Advertising), Will McCraney (Mechanical Engineering), Charles Moore (Finance), Keegan Severns (Mechanical Engineering), Reid Walker (Mechanical Engineering) and Jackson Wilcox (Middle Eastern Studies) were all named Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Jimmy Feigen (Exercise Science), Eric Friedland (Economics), Matthew Hoyland (Economics) and Michael McBroom (Government) were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. Jimmy Feigen and Eric Friedland both received their third Academic All-big 12 nod after Feigen earned first team recognition in 2010 and second team recognition in 2011 and Friedland received two-straight first team nods in 2010 and 2011. Jackson Wilcox picked up his second consecutive first team honors while Cole Cragin and Matthew Hoyland were both members of the second team in 2011.
The Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Team includes 80 (22 men, 58 women) first team honorees and 20 (nine men, 11 women) second team members. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
