No. 4 Men's Swimming and Diving clinches 15th-straight Big 12 Championships title
Feb. 26, 2011 AUSTIN, Texas - The fourth-ranked Texas Men's Swimming and Diving team won six events on Saturday night at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center to put an emphatic stamp on the Longhorns' 15th-straight Big 12 Championships victory. The triumph also gives the Longhorns their 32nd consecutive conference crown, dating back to the Southwest Conference era. UT won the meet with 1,052 points, followed by Texas A&M in second place with 817. Missouri was third with 707. Jimmy Feigen and Nick D'Innocenzo were selected as Co-Men's Outstanding Swimmers of the Meet. Drew Livingston was named the Men's Outstanding Diver. Eddie Reese was named Men's Outstanding Swimming Coach, and Matt Scoggin was the Men's Outstanding Diving Coach. Austin Surhoff claimed his second individual title of the meet, taking the 200 backstroke in 1:42.24. Surhoff was followed by a trio of Longhorns. Patrick Murphy placed second in 1:43.61, and Timothy Johnson claimed third place in 1:44.41. Bryan Collins finished fourth with a time of 1:45.10. Feigen outreached teammate Dax Hill to take home the 100 freestyle. Feigen finished in 42.46, just in front of Hill, who claimed second place with a time of 42.59. Scott Jostes swam 44.10 to earn fifth place, and Kyle McNeilis was seventh in 44.35. Jackson Wilcox and Michael McBroom engaged in a competitive 1,650 freestyle. Wilcox took control early, and then McBroom appeared on the verge of overtaking Wilcox with about 250 yards remaining. Wilcox, however, kicked into an extra gear and finished in 14:49.24, the third-fastest time in the country. McBroom was second in 14:50.06, and James Robertson finished fourth in 15:31.42. D'Innocenzo set a new meet record in the 200 breaststroke, and had to beat out his school's own record-holder in the event to do so. D'Innocenzo finished in 1:53.68 - the fastest time in the country - and that stands the third-fastest time ever by a Longhorn. Eric Friedland, who held the meet record entering the competition, was second in 1:55.28. Scott Spann, who owns the school record, finished third in 1:56.32. Neil Caskey used a personal-best time of 1:45.37 to win the 200 butterfly. Livingston claimed the second platform diving title of his UT career with 478.40 points. He was fueled by a perfect dive in the fourth round, a reverse three-and-a-half somersault which warranted a score of 10 from all judges. William Chandler was fourth with 360.25. The Longhorns finished second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 2:52.83. Woody Joye swam the leadoff leg in 44.45, followed by Jostes in 43.45. Austin Surhoff swam the third leg in 43.99, and Hill turned in a 41.76 split in the anchor leg. 2011 Big 12 Championships - Day 4 Results
