Dec. 19, 2010
DURBAN, South Africa -- Texas junior Dylan Frittelli shot a 68 in the final round and finished in a tie for 42nd place Sunday at the South African Open, a PGA European Tour event at the Durban Country Club.
Frittelli (Pretoria, South Africa) opened the event with a 4-under 68 and followed with an even-par 72 in round two. Heavy rains rendered the fourth hole unplayable for the remaining two rounds, which were reduced to 17 holes each with players awarded a nominal score of par at No. 4, an otherwise par-three hole.
With the adjustment, Frittelli finished with an even-par 69 in round three and a 1-under 68 in the final round to finish at 5-under for the tournament. Frittelli fell shy of earning the tournament's "low amateur" designation by one stroke. Frittelli also participated in the 2009 South African Open and tied for 47th place. Ernie Els edged Retief Goosen for the tournament title by one stroke.
