Spieth completes first round at PGA Tour Q-School Second Stage

McKINNEY, Texas -- Sophomore All-American Jordan Spieth opened with a 1-under-par 71 in the PGA Tour Q-School Second Stage at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, Tuesday afternoon. After making his first of three bogeys on the first hole, Spieth made five straight pars before his second bogey came at No. 7. He shaved three strokes off his scorecard over the following two holes with a birdie at eight and an eagle at nine. Spieth’s final bogey occurred on the 11th hole to put him at even with seven holes remaining, but he later connected on his second birdie at No. 13 for the 1-under round. Spieth is tied for 32nd place entering Wednesday’s second round. There is no cut in the four-day, 72-hole stage of the PGA Tour’s Q-School process. A percentage of the field (to be determined by the PGA Tour) will advance to the final qualifying stage from Nov. 28-Dec. 3 in LaQuinta, Calif. The top-25 and ties will earn PGA Tour cards for the 2013 season, while all players in the final stage will earn different levels of status on the Web.com Tour for the upcoming year. Spieth will begin tomorrow’s round on the 10th tee at 10:15 a.m. Central.
