AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas men's golf team received National Letters of Intent from two of Texas' top junior golfers, head coach John Fields announced on Thursday, Nov. 11. Charles Holland (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and Randy Lowry (Spring, Texas/Spring), teammates on the 2003 Canon Cup west team, will join the Longhorns for the 2005-06 season.
"We are thrilled to have these two young men join the tradition at Texas," stated coach Fields. "These two represent the future of Texas golf and we expect them to compete for playing positions right away. We believe that they can help this team towards its ultimate goal of winning a National Championship."
Holland won the 2003 UIL 4A Individual State Championship while playing for head coach Jeff Lloyd at Highland Park. He was named an All-American by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).
Lowry was also named an AJGA All-American and has already played in two U.S. Amateur Championships. He has also participated in two Porter Cup events and two Western Amateur Championships.
Next up, the sixth-ranked Texas men's golf team will head to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. to compete in the 2004 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship from Sunday to Tuesday, Nov. 14-16.
