Men's Golf team ranked 19th in latest GCAA/Bridgestone poll

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Texas men’s golf team received a No. 19 ranking in the latest GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches poll. Georgia continued its reign over Division I men’s golf by gaining 16 first-place votes to remain ranked No. 1.

Georgia Tech remained second and picked up the last first-place nod. Oklahoma State held on to the number three spot, followed by Duke and Florida.

UNLV and Tennessee each slid two spots to come in at numbers six and eight, respectively, while Brigham Young climbed two spots to check in between them at seventh. Arizona State and UCLA close out the top 10.

Wake Forest dropped three spots to No. 11, coming in just ahead of South Carolina. The Gamecocks made the biggest move in the poll, soaring from 20th to 12th. Minnesota checks in at No. 14, one slot ahead of Big Ten foe Northwestern. Kentucky, Georgia State, Auburn, Texas and Alabama close out this week’s top 20.

Augusta State slid six rungs to No. 21, followed by previously unranked Texas A&M. Kent State, Clemson and East Tennessee State completed the top 25.

New Mexico and Southern California fell from the rankings.

The GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll will be released Nov. 18.

In three tournaments this fall, the men's golf team has finished no lower than tied for seventh and as high as third. In those tournaments only UCLA has finished ahead of UT more than once and among those schools that have finished ahead of Texas, none have finished in the top seven the following tournament besides the Bruins.

The Longhorns will now take a break until Jan. 30-31 when they head to Tucson, Arizona for the PING/Arizona Intercollegiate at Arizona National Golf Course.
