Men's Golf in fourth place at Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- University of Texas senior Jhonattan Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) shot rounds of 67 and 70 to finish the first two rounds in a tie for 10th place Monday at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at the par 71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Golf Club. Vegas stands seven strokes behind tournament leader Will Griffin of Texas Tech, and Texas sits in fourth place at 12-under par with 18 holes remaining. Host Alabama leads the event at 26-under par. Junior Kevin Schultz (Richardson, Texas) sits in a tie for 13th place after shooting identical rounds of 69 to finish at four-under par on the day. Senior Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) carded a 73 in the morning round but responded with a 68 in the afternoon to end the day in a tie for 30th place at one under. Senior Matt Bortis (Springfield, Mo.) opened with an even-par 71 and stroked a 73 in the afternoon round to finish at two-over par and in a tie for 37th place. Freshman Lance Lopez (Missouri City, Texas) was disqualified after the opening round and carded a two-under 69 in the second round. His afternoon round does not count toward the Longhorns' results.
