Men's Golf vaults to No. 5 in Golfstat rankings
Sept. 30, 2009 AUSTIN, Texas -- A third-place finish among a highly-regarded tournament field at this month's Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational has lifted Texas to No. 5 in the latest Golfstat head-to-head performance rankings. Texas finished ahead of four top-10 teams -- No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 Illinois, No. 7 Georgia and No. 8 Augusta State -- at the Olympia Fields event that concluded on Sept. 20. Freshman Cody Gribble made a formidable presence in his collegiate debut, as he tied for third at three-over par for the tournament at Olympia Fields. "The season is very young, but our team has showed some very positive strength early on in the season," UT coach John Fields said. "From Cody Gribble's top-three finish at Olympia Fields to (UT senior) Charlie Holland's semifinals finish at the U.S. Amateur, we've had strong performances. Our qualifying events have been well contested, so I expect our lineup to continue to change. It makes for a very competitive team." Texas resumes play on Oct. 12 at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
