Beginning in 1944, the Massingill Tournament was once the only way to become a member of the Texas men's golf program. The tourney was open to all men attending The University of Texas, and the top qualifiers were invited to join the Longhorns' squad.
PGA Tour veteran Justin Leonard is the only four-time winner of the Massingill Trophy. He took top honors in the tournament from 1991-94. Tom Kite took top honors in 1970, and Ben Crenshaw won the tournament in each of the following three seasons - 1971-73.
